About: Trastevere Winds is Des Moines Community Orchestra's Woodwind Quintet, which has sometimes been described as a small ensemble with a big personality! The sound of a woodwind quintet is colorful, expressive, and richly textured. Its members are non-string players from the main orchestra. As an ensemble, the music they produce is like a lively conversation between five distinct voices: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and horn. Each instrument brings something unique to the mix:
Together, these instruments create a beautifully blended yet dynamic sound—sometimes delicate and intimate, other times bold and bright. The ensemble can evoke everything from sprightly humor to profound emotion. This combination is perfect for creating an upscale, elegant atmosphere, such as the type of music one would find at a wedding or garden party; or, the instrumentation can be whimsical and joyous, characteristic of a Christmas or Holiday event. Trastevere Winds is also well versed in providing sacred music for religious services and events, and can collaborate with other instruments and vocalists.
