Des Moines Community Orchestra

Our Spring Concert concludes our concert season. Music Director and Conductor, Carl Johnson, will lead the orchestra as we perform music that will stir your spirit! 

As always, FREE admission makes it possible for everyone to experience live classical music performances regardless of financial resources.

May 9, 2010, Sunday 
Concert begins at 2:00 p.m. in Sheslow Auditorium.
Pre-concert talk begins at 1:00 p.m. at Sheslow.

Sheslow is one block north of University Avenue, just west of 25th Street, and is attached to the Old Main building on the Drake University campus.

Parking is available in the big lot bounded by 24th-25th Streets (east-west) and Forest -Carpenter (north-south). Click here for a map to Sheslow.

Program: "Tapping Our Inner Soloists"

Final details are still developing, but the concert is shaping up as one that will feature soloists and ensembles from within the orchestra. Tentative plans include the following:

bulletCanzon duodecimi toni by Giovanni Gabrieli [brass] 
bullet5 Variants on Dives and Lazarus by Ralph Vaughan Williams [strings and harp] 
bulletRhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin [full orchestra and solo piano] 
bulletRomance by Sir Edward Elgar [strings, woodwinds, some brass, and solo bassoon] 
bulletPeace by John Golland [strings, woodwinds, harp, and solo euphonium] 
bulletTrumpet Concerto in Eb, third movement [strings, some woodwind, some brass, and solo trumpet]
bulletThere is likely to be a percussion feature also, but final selection is pending.
