Guest Soloist
Yoshi Ozaki
Yoshihiro
Ozaki, a native of Japan, started playing the cello in 1998 at the age of 15. He
was inspired by his first cello made by famed luthier Yoshiki Nakamura. After
graduating from Rikkyo University in business, he moved to Texas to attend
Baylor University. While studying biochemistry there, his passion for the cello
continued to grow, and included performing as a soloist with the Baylor Campus
Orchestra. He has studied cello performance with Haruo Kuroiwa, Izaak Casal,
Gary Hardy, and Victoria Wolff.
After moving to Des Moines in 2009 to pursue a medical degree at Des Moines
University, Yoshi's love for music led him to start the Des Moines University
Chamber Orchestra, a group that nurtures the musical talents of both students
and staff at the University.
Yoshi has been principal cellist for several orchestras, including his
present position with the Des Moines Community Orchestra. Yoshi was also invited
to perform at the inauguration of the current governor of Iowa.
